SUMMARY:The Ark Playgroup – Hampton Hill
DESCRIPTION:St James’s Ark is a playgroup for carers and under fives which is Christian based and non-educational. It is an important Christian outreach to the children and adults alike. It takes place in church on Monday mornings during term time from 10am – 12 noon. The group provides a fun morning for the children and a chance for the adults to chat with friends old and new in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. There is a large regular clientele\, some occasional visitors and new people are always welcome. About twenty five children usually attend per week with a maximum of thirty families being accommodated. As there is a limit to the number of people come early to avoid disappointment. The cost is £3 each week for the first child\, £1 for any others. Any surplus money is donated to one of St James’s charities. \nThere are two separate play areas\, for babies and toddlers\, with lots of toys and equipment\, much of it donated. There is an art and craft table and Coryn goes in twice a term to do a flower-based activity. Later in the morning the children can take part in singing and action rhymes and listen to a story. Refreshments for both adults and children are available at no extra cost throughout the morning with Fairtrade goods being used. There is access to the toilets in the west porch. There is always a fun filled Christmas Party and a picnic in Bushy Park on the last session before the summer holidays. \nhttps://www.stjames-hamptonhill.org.uk/children/the-ark/

SUMMARY:Parent & Child Family Group – East Twickenham
DESCRIPTION:The principles that underlie all of the work at The St Michael Steiner School are also at the heart of their Parent and Child groups. These principles come out of observation of the developmental stages that children go through as they grow and a perception of what they need at each stage. \nThe groups work out of the understanding of the young child enhanced by the work of Rudolf Steiner as well as Emmi Pikler. With this in mind\, they aim to provide a supportive environment for parents and carers of young children and a nurturing one for the children themselves. \nTheir most important task is to support you whilst you raise and care for your children. They know that parents/carers of young children can sometimes feel exhausted and isolated during this often joyful\, fulfilling stage of family life. There is an enormous\, ever-growing body of information and advice which can be very helpful\, positive\, practical and well-meaning. However\, it is sometimes contradictory\, overwhelming and\, at its worst\, consumerism/competition-driven. \nIn the Parent and Child Groups\, they strive to offer balance\, the opportunity to relax in nature\, meet other parents or perhaps dabble in a simple seasonal craft. Or help with a little gardening\, peruse the books and pamphlets on offer\, whilst your children explore and play alongside or with each other. \nThe group leaders can offer information about Steiner Waldorf Education\, Emmi Pikler’s Self-Initiated Physical Development /Respectful Care\, as well as parenting issues\, if you want to ask them. \nParent & Child Groups
