Barnes Common Autumn Fayre

Join a community event filled with fun activities for everyone!

To celebrate Apple Day and all things Autumn, you are invited to join the annual Barnes Common Autumn Fayre, a community event for all.

A day full of fun!

Apple celebration – Take your apples for juicing in a traditional apple presser. Don’t worry if you don’t have an apple tree, they will have apples available for you!

Fungi Walks – If you’re looking for a learning experience, join internationally regarded botanist, Dr Mark Spencer for a fungi walk on Barnes Common at 10.30am or 2.00pm. Folklorist, Roy Vickery will also host two walks during the day, the Wonderful World of Weeds Walk in the morning is suitable for everyone and the Healing Hedges in the afternoon walk is suitable for 16+. Family activities – Visit the Lifelong Learning area for seasonal fun activities for all ages! Local organisations the Mortlake Community Association will have crafts for children and the AfC’s YES bus will be visiting with activities for children and young people. They will also have a woodcraft activity with the fabulous Ellie from Wood Wool Willow.

Sustainable Marketplace – For the first time this year there will be a number of local, sustainable tradespeople offering their products for sale, including hand-made soaps, local honey, natural candles, local art, and hand crafted baskets.

Pumpkin decorating – Visit the Community Growing team in the polytunnel, and have a go at crafting a pumpkin! There will be lots of different crafting materials to choose from – go along and get creative!

Nature table – Explore the nature table stocked with fascinating specimens and samples of local wildlife, staffed by an expert team. Famed entomologist Richard ‘Bugman’ Jones and earthworm expert James Skillicorn will be hosting stalls and activities throughout the day.

Play Conkers! – Feeling competitive? This years competition will be in the form of mini games. Test your skill to get to the top of the leader board! Adult and U14 categories with prizes for U14 winners.

Important machines – Fascinated by agricultural machinery? A tractor will be at the event – you may even sit in the operator’s seat if you like – donations gratefully accepted.

Pizza, cakes and snacks – Delighted to welcome The Dough Shack who will sell pizzas from 12:30 to 2:30pm. The Vine Road Community Café will be open all day serving hot and cold drinks and snacks. They will have homemade cakes for sale at their bake sale.

Fees apply to some walks and activities from £3, and tickets can be purchased on the day (card and cash accepted).

Please dress appropriately for the weather and wear sturdy footwear.

All activities meet at the Vine Road Recreation Ground near the Pavilion.
