Hounslow Urban Farm

The Hounslow Urban Farm is certainly urban (being about a mile away from Heathrow airport) but it’s spacious, full of charm, really well presented, and has a lovely selection of animals for children to see and interact with.

There are chickens roaming around and a large area full of spacious paddocks, where you’ll find different types of goats, donkeys, sheep and even alpaca. On entering the farm you can buy bags of food to feed some of the animals, which is magical for the kids. You might also be lucky enough to also see a baby animal being bottle-fed.

There is also a farmyard, where you’ll find peacocks, owls, guinea pigs, rabbits, ferrets and other birds and animals. One of the highlights is the enormous pigs that you’ll find lolling about in their pens or outside enjoying some mud! Daily activities include pig meet & greets and owl encounters, and there are often extra activities during the holidays such as tortoise washing and pony grooming.

Not all the attractions are outside though. There is also a marquee where their ‘animal encounters’ take place, which are the highlight of any visit. You can meet and interact with lots of the animals, including rats, guinea pigs, tarantulas, ferrets, a chinchilla, lizards, snakes and more. The reptiles are being looked after at the farm while money is being raised to build a new Tropical Zoo, which needs a new home since it closed at Syon Park.

Up in the paddocks there is an outside play area full of climbing frames and swings. In a huge barn close to the entrance, there’s a bouncy castle for the kids to play on – so they’ll definitely have fun whatever the weather! On Tuesdays during term time, there is a Parent & Toddler session between 10.30-11.30am, with animal encounters and free play. They also run children’s parties, where you get to choose from a number of activities.

For lunch, the cafe serves kids lunch boxes as well as sandwiches, paninis and jacket potatoes. The menu is simple, but the quality of the ingredients is excellent and the finished products absolutely delicious.

All-in-all The Hounslow Urban Farm makes a fantastic fun and educational day out. It can be found on Faggs Road, Feltham TW14 0LZ, and contacted on 020 8831 9658. It is open all year round, apart from Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
