Orange Tree Theatre Children’s Classes

Be part of the OT Community! There are joyful and creatively engaging weekly classes available for all ages, with sessions for Parents & Babies to Over 60s and for every age in-between! Sessions are packed with games, storytelling and meeting new friends, with a particular focus on building kindness and empathy.

In addition to their long-established Youth Theatre (7-18yrs) and Young Company (18-25yrs) programmes, the OT has started running new Early Years classes for children aged 0-7yrs:

Kumquats: Parent & Baby classes, Fridays 10.00-11.00am

0-3yrs: Fridays 10.00-11.10am

A space of play for parents and their babies. Using song, music and storytelling, these sessions will aim to stimulate babies’ development and promote play between parent and baby. the last 15mins of the session are for tea and chat.

Early Years and Primary classes

5-7yrs: Saturdays 10.00-11.30am

Children take part in joyful and dynamic sessions where they play games to develop speaking and listening, empathy and kindess. These sessions will be an opportunity for young ones to have fun and make new freinds in a creative environment.

8-11yrs: Saturdays 11.45am-1.15pm

Children take part in fun and dynamic sessions where they play drama games to develop theatre-making and performance, learn new skills and makes new friends. Starting in 2021 they will work towards an intergenerational project alongside the OT’s ten other community groups to create a piece of theatre to share in a Summer Festival in 2022.

Youth Theatre classes

12–14 yrs: Tuesdays 5.00-7.00pm

14–16 yrs: Mondays 5.00-7.00pm

16–18 yrs: Thursdays 5.30-7.30pm

Youth Theatre members attend engaging weekly sessions which involve games and exercises that aim to develop their skills as theatre-makers, performers and people. These classes cover areas including acting, voice, devising, script work, improvisation, mime & physical thatre. As well as this the OT aims to offer exciting opportunities such as trips, masterclasses and information about other industry events.

Sessions are led by a wonderful team of professional Community Directors and theatre-makers who are highly experienced in working with and children, young people and adults, including those with additional needs and challenges surrounding mental health. There are a limited number of bursary places available for those receiving income support or free school meals.
