The Alligator’s Mouth

The Alligator’s Mouth is a magical independent children’s bookshop in Richmond town centre, which opened in 2015. The minute you walk in you’ll be lost in a world of gorgeous picture books and the very best of young fiction and factual books.

As well as the brilliant range of books available – from baby to young adult – the passionate staff are always on hand to offer expert advice and recommendations. Their mission is to ‘reach all readers: the confident, the beginner, and the reading-resistant’. They are there for any child who wants to enter Wonderland, be a pirate or fly with dragons! And if the book you’re looking for isn’t on the shelves they will happily order it in for you.

The Alligator’s Mouth also hosts a number of regular and one-off events. They have storytimes for the under 6s three times a week (check our calendar for details), as well as a book club for 9-11 year olds and a popular monthly comic club for 8-12 year olds. They also run a number of author events, where children can meet the author of a latest release, hear excerpts from the book and take part in related activities. Make sure you subscribe to their newsletter to make sure you don’t miss out!

If it’s difficult to visit the shop, they also have a selection of books available on their website. This includes signed copies, recent bestsellers, staff favourites, and imports – which can be mailed out to you or put aside for you to pick up at a more convenient time.

The Alligator’s Mouth can be found at 2a Church Court, Richmond TW9 1JL. It is open from 10.00am-5.30pm Monday to Friday, from 10.00am-6.00pm on Saturdays and from 11.00am-4.00pm on Sundays (except for during August when the shop is shut on Sundays).
