The Sun Inn

The Sun Inn, overlooking the village pond in Church Road, is the perfect place to meet up with other mums and is also a great venue in which to relax for a while once the little ones are safely tucked up in bed. This delightful and friendly pub has so much to offer, not just good food and an astonishing array of drinks from around the world, but where else could you find a pub with a flower stall?

It’s a great place for lunch in Barnes – and you can take the kids to feed the ducks before or afterwards. Babies and children are welcome until 8.00pm. The food is delicious, with fresh fish dishes, handmade beef burgers, sandwiches, an amazing Sunday roast, as well as vegetarian options. The menu changes daily and there are always seasonal specials available. There isn’t a specific children’s menu, but there are things that kids will eat, such as fish finger sandwiches and chips, sausage and mash or fish pie. If you can get a babysitter, it’s also a great place to enjoy in the evening. And the choice of drinks is truly staggering. You might fancy a glass of English potato vodka. Personally, we love the Belgian fruit beers. There are always at least 20 speciality beers, including locally brewed real ale, and a whole world of wines.

If the weather lets you, the garden at the back is the perfect place to catch up with other mums and try out the bar snacks. How about breaded pig’s cheek and piccalilli? You’ve never want to touch a pre-packed bag of pork scratchings again! And, if the weather’s not so nice, you can still stay outside thanks to the covered area designed to keep you dry on those unpredictable days. There are also lots of board games on offer to keep the older children entertained.
