SIMMSport at St Mary’s University

SIMMSport St Mary's UniversitySIMMSport is a fun, high quality sports programme that delivers weekly coaching sessions and holiday camps to boys and girls aged 5 to 16 years old. Every young person who takes part in SIMMSport receives high quality coaching that will develop their physical and social skills within a dynamic and safe environment. The weekly sessions provided include athletics, football, gymnastics and rugby.

  • SIMMSAthletics: an athletics club for boys and girls aged 5 to 12 years. St Mary’s provides one of the best endurance running environments in the world and offers a unique experience for young people to train and compete on the same track as superstars such as Mo Farah and Usain Bolt. Parents can choose from a range of sessions held throughout weekday evenings and on Saturdays, with sessions being delivered to allow children to develop a range of fundamental track and field skills.
  • SIMMSplitz: a gymnastics club for boys and girls aged 5 to 12 years. The club introduces gymnasts to key skills in an Olympic equipped gymnasium with activities on bars, beams, sprung tracks and floor work. Gymnasts are consistently working towards British Gymnastics proficiency, starting at level 8 and progressing through to level 1. All of the coaches have years of gymnastics coaching experience as well as the knowledge of being gymnasts themselves.

During certain school holidays SIMMSport also runs a range of holiday camps, including multi-sports and sport-specific camps, aimed at school children from the local community. The camps offer opportunities to be active, learn new sports and develop sporting skills in a fun and safe environment.

The coaching at SIMMSport is provided by students from St Mary’s, many of whom are studying sport and/or teaching degrees themselves. The programme gives the students a chance to develop their coaching skills and gain experience working with young people. They are passionate about what they do and bring great enthusiasm and positivity to motivate the young people they coach.
