Sports Generation Swimming
Sports Generation is a high calibre swimming company, delivering personalised private (1:1) and shared private (2:1) swimming tuition to children aged 2+yrs in South West London, Surrey and beyond. Established in 2012, its mission is to turn its pupils into strong, confident swimmers with excellent technique at the earliest possible age. Their highly experienced and fully qualified coaches all follow Sports Generation’s proven approach, enabling children to progress as powerful, happy swimmers, whilst simultaneously ensuring that lessons are safe and productive by running them in line with the National Teaching Plan. Classes take place during term-time, and intensive courses run during half-terms and school holidays.
Sports Generation is passionate about the benefits of children learning to swim, for a whole host of reasons:
- Swimming can save lives: this may sound dramatic, but it is true! Drowning is the third leading cause of unintentional injury death worldwide, with the highest drowning rates among children 1–9 years, according to the World Health Organisation. Swimming is therefore a life skill that everyone should acquire from a young age.
- Swimming helps to build a stronger body: with swimming, you use most of your muscle groups, so it is perfect for toning muscles and building core strengths.
- Swimming helps improve performance in land-based sports: swimming promotes greater lung capacity, which allows for aerobic and anaerobic gains to be made, and is a crucial measure of cardiovascular fitness. It also hones full body movements and encourages a greater range of motion around the shoulders, hips and torso, which is beneficial to other sports.
- Swimming builds confidence: participation in non-competitive activities such as swimming encourages children to be more confident in themselves, their body and their skills. When they see they do well in swimming, this fosters a positive attitude towards exercise and they are more likely to participate in other sports.
- Swimming is a mood booster: swimming produces endorphins, the hormones that make you feel happy and increase positivity. In addition, breathing patterns and rhythmic movements created with swimming can be meditative – anxious or fidgety children often leave swimming lessons calmer and more relaxed.
- Swimming can make your child smarter: yes really! Studies from Griffith University show that young children who regularly swim are above average when it comes to cognitive skills, problem solving in mathematics and languages.
